Teachers and Graduates, Level 1, 200hr Yoga Teacher Training, Goa, India, Jan 2013Why choose Tribe?
Tribe trainings are fondly remembered by its graduates as a 'once in a lifetime experience and magical journey of healing & growth'. We have many students come to us through recommendation from others who have been on a Tribe TTC. They come to know that the course is much more than just yoga practice on the physical level. They hear about the amazing teachers who share their expertise, experience and passion for the yoga teachings and yoga living.
Teachings are presented in a non dogmatic, modern and easily digestible form. Trainees find it easy to connect and resonate with Tribes 'down to earth' approach. They appreciate that we aim to nurture the individuality of each student through a training that has a fusion of yoga styles and disciplines to experience. As well as the main yoga disciplines of pranayama, meditation and asana many students find the conscious eating, purification practices, healing, chanting and spiritual empowerment aspects of the course offer fertile ground for long lasting transformation.
Throughout the training trainees get lots of teaching practice which allows them to build skill and confidence in themselves to share what they love. By the end of the training it's amazing to see that in this relatively short amount of time everyone is able to share their understanding and practice of yoga with others.
As well as giving people the opportunity of personal growth and transformation through yogic studies and practice Tribe brings together yoga lovers from different countries and backgrounds to share a journey that often leads to dramatic life changes and the beginning of life-long friendships.
For many this is an opportunity to practice yoga with like-minded people and professional teachers in a safe and supportive environment on a journey of self discovery and spiritual development regardless of flexibility, strength or yoga experience.
Some trainees attend the training because they hold a passion to become teachers whilst others attend because they want to challenge themselves to a month of yoga study and intensive practice.
Trainees learn and practice yoga techniques and disciplines of purification and transformation which can often lead to the release of deep seated physical and emotional tensions.
Trainings are only suitable for yoga aspirants who are ready, emotionally and physically, to commit 100% to the intensive and challenging experience of themselves that the training evokes.

THE TEACHERS
On all trainings we have a dedicated and committed team of experienced yoga teachers who have been studying, practicing and sharing their practice with others for many years. Tribe teachers consider themselves to be quite progressive. They have naturally studied and practiced different styles of Hatha Yoga including Ashtanga Vinyasa, Iyengar, Dynamic Yoga, Vinyasa Flow and kundalini. Tribe's fusion of asana, pranayama and meditation styles & techniques create a complete journey of both movement and stillness.

THE YOGA PRACTICES
Self Practice
One of our main focuses is to guide you towards deepening into a strong self practice and a more yogic lifestyle. We facilitate a space whereby each person is invited to appreciate and nurture their own individuality, developing a self practice that reflects how and what one is feeling in each and every moment so that the sequencing of ones practice or teaching becomes more spontaneous and explorative.
Asana
In asana the sequencing for study and practice is based on a Modified Ashtanga Primary Series and Vinyasa Flow. To honor our varying abilities and limitations there are modifications to the traditional primary series asanas and introductions to a greater variety of asanas and sequencing taught under an umbrella of spiritual content and guidance.
We feel that awareness is the fertile ground for transformation and the real essence of asana practice lies in connecting to the subtleties of the body, breath and mind. Instructions focus on leading the students into a deeper awareness, to feel and recognise what’s going on inside their bodies ....not just physically!
Moving through an asana practice is not the inhale 'do this' and exhale 'do that' often experience in many ashtanga classes…this does little to enhance a students self development & progress. Asana classes taught on Tribe training incorperate practical instruction and spirtual guidance.
The Tribe approach transmitted to trainees is one of clear and effective instruction to increase awareness and sensitivity empowering students to deepen into a safe and beneficial practice.
The method we use in the asana practices and studies is inspired by 'Dynamic yoga ' as devised by Godfrey Devereux. The dynamic yoga method gives us a simplistic approach to the practice and understanding of some basic fundamentals applied during effective asana practice. Those fundamentals are:
1. A soft and passive core.
2. A stable foundation.
3. Expression of the bandhas.
4. Freedom of the breath.
Awareness and sensitivity act as the fertile ground on which the fundamentals can be cultivated.
Pranayama
Pranayama can open the doors to the possibility of transcending physical and emotional blocks thereby accessing and connecting to the more subtle aspects of our being. The pranayama program includes a broad range of techniques that present a gradual yet deep exploration of the power of the breath.

Meditation
As part of the yoga practice schedule the meditation program is a reflection of the different styles of meditations that the teachers on the training personally practice, which depending on the teaching team may include Anapasati (mindfulness of breathing), dynamic meditation, Aum meditation and various styles of guided meditations techniques including trataka & the hang-sa kriya.
Meditation can be quite challenging to western students who are not used to sitting for long periods in stillness so please consider this carefully if you wish to train with Tribe. Some meditations will be guided and some will be in silence.
All the meditations are an invitation to cultivate the awareness and stillness that is the hallmark of all spiritual practices.
Philosophy
At Tribe the ancient teachings of the East are taught in a modern way suitable for the western mind so students can flourish in their practice and naturally gravitate to a more yogic lifestyle. We have no bias to any particular spiritual teachings and teach in a non-dogmatic way which embraces many spiritual traditions and paths.
Studying the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali we focus on the eight limbs of Ashtanga Yoga. The eight limbs illuminates our understanding of what yoga is and how to practice.
We like to think that the 'real' teachings come from all those who participate in the training discussing, sharing, exploring and debating yoga practice and yogic lifestyle in the animated philosophical sessions that take place each week.
Other Practices include:
Kriyas, Fasting & Detoxing, Chakra studies, Chanting, Yoga Nidra and Acro-Partner Yoga

WHAT TO EXPECT
Each student receives a training manual to suport their studeis and is required to keep a journal to document discoveries, developments, studies and thoughts.
If you have a passion to become a teacher this course provides a supportive arena to access your inner guru. You can expect to build a strong foundation of confidence and skill which will allow you to teach clearly and precisely from your own experience. You will also develop the teaching skills and hands-on adjustment skills that allow you to become a sensitive and competent teacher.
On the other hand if you are attending the course purely for self development reasons then you may surprise yourself at the end of the training, as many do, by realising that you have a lot to share with others as a teacher.
Everybody who attends the training regardless of their initial reason can expect to gain an increase in their confidence and skill as a yoga practitioner. And you can be sure that you will discover and develop many new yoga disciplines and practices that will support you in all aspects of your life. The wealth of information and wisdom shared through the grace of the yoga teachings will furnish your life with blessings and guidance for evermore.
CERTIFICATES
All trainees who successfully complete the course receive an internationally recognized 200hr yoga teacher certificate qualifying them to teach whatever style of yoga they love and practice. Holders of the Tribe teaching certificate can register with the Yoga Alliance and other yoga registries as a RYT (registered yoga teacher).
More training recommendations
In the rare case that a trainee, on final assessment, needs extra time developing their skills to satisfy the basic standard of teaching, that trainee will be given a temporary certificate which states 'more training recommended before teaching to the public'. Additional training can be completed via self-study and through practice teaching to friends. When the trainee feels ready for re-assessment they can send a video of themselves teaching. If the basic standard of teaching has then been demonstrated through the video footage a standard certificate will then be issued.

STUDENT TESTIMONIALS
Tribe YTT Goa, India
The Tribe yoga teacher training was an immensely powerful tool to self-study, healing, and understanding the mechanics of the body and the mind. I came to India wanting to deepen my knowledge of the roots of yoga, and was deeply inspired by the wealth of knowledge that I was given that extended far past any other studies that I had ever been of part of. Truthfully I did not know what to expect at all and am incredibly moved by the powerful support and generosity the teachers offered about their own life journeys in yoga and its counterparts. The program was the most dynamic because of the encouragement each person was given to find their own voice within yoga, their own unique voice and style, and the groundwork was set from the first day to transcend any rigid dogma and create an individual path. It was a wonderful wonderful experience and I am forever touched…Thank you!...love and namaste!!! Leah (U.S.A)

This course was all that i hoped that it would be, and all that it promised to be. I wanted a relaxed and in depth introduction to the many aspects of the Eight Limbs of Yoga, obviously a challenge to squeeze into a one month intro course, however i really feel that this was achieved. All aspects of the course revealed the dedication, devotion and care of the teachers to our learning and further progress and understanding of this bottomless sea of knowledge. It was like being safely descended into a scuba dive, slowly exploring the depths of Philosophy,Asana, Pranayama, Meditation, Teaching, Chanting, Adjusting, and Yoga. My daily practise has continued and developed naturally as a result of this immersion. Even though i have been teaching yoga Asana in Bali for five years now I feel so much more confidant and grounded in my personal Yoga lifestyle and far more equipped to share what i feel and know of yoga. Many thanks to Scarlett, Sequoia, Raquel, Susie and Hamid. Namaste. Rhan (New Zealand)
