Is it a ‘Spiritual’ training? Yoga is a spiritual path, a journey towards Truth and Wisdom and all Tribe teachers practice yoga for much more than just physical reasons and this comes across in their teaching. We hope that all trainees on these advanced level trainings will already be expressing a level of spiritual maturity that is the fruit of years of practice. We will be taking our practices beyond the physical to a much more subtle level and this requires that everybody who attends already has some degree of interest and understanding of spirituality.

How much experience do I need? The Level 2 training is open to experienced and dedicated practitioners who have been studying and practising yoga for a number of years. All those who attend the training should have a regular self practice which includes various yoga disciplines (meditation, asana, pranayama, kriyas etc). Trainees should have past experience studying yoga on other retreats or trainings. We particularly welcome yoga students who have attended any other yoga intensives, meditation courses, philosophical trainings or silent retreats.

I am already teaching but do not have a certificate? Will I get a recognized certificate? If you are an experienmced yoga teacher or practitioner and would like to train at an advanced level for your own self development and practice you may be able to attend the Level 2 training at the discretion of the training facilitator. At the end of the training you will be given a certificate of completion (this is not the level 2 teaching qualification). If you haven't attended a teacher training before we recommend that you first go to a 200hr Level 1 training where you will be able to advance your self practice, learn or fine tune your teaching skills and receive an International teaching qualification. A lot of what we study on Level 1 Tribe trainings is often new and exciting for both 'beginner' and 'advanced' students so even long time teachers find that attending a Tribe training gives a fresh input into the way they teach and that the diversity of the teachers and the knowledge they impart to the trainees is both unique and stimulating.

What will the Asana classes be like?
Asana classes are taught through instructions that are focus on leading you into a deeper awareness to feel and recognise what’s going on inside your bodies ….not just physically! We feel that awareness is the fertile ground for transformation and the real essence of yoga lies in the subtleties of the body, breath, and mind. As well as vinyasa and ujjayi (trademarks of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga) our asana classes also have a lot of instruction directing the students to the foundation, the breath, the bandhas and the core. There is a lot of focus on spiritual context directing the student’s attention to what they are feeling and helping them to cultivate a sense of honesty, sensitivity, focus and openness. The Tribe approach is one of clear and effective instruction that empower students into a more beneficial and deeper asana practice. In our opinion this does not necessarily happen in mysore style classes and therefore we do not offer any mysore style asana sessions on these trainings. There will be taught practices of the 1st and 2nd series. We will also include various worshop style sessions to focus on more challenging asana practices such as handstands & arm balances, jump throughs, acro yoga and more! Please visit the teachers biographies for more information on the individual styles of the Tribe teachers
How do you complete 500hrs in 4 weeks? The 500hr training is a continuation of the 200hr level 1 training. To receive the 500 hr certification you must have already completed a 200 hr training. Your 200hr certification can be with any registered school. In 4 weeks we will complete 245 contact hours. An additional 55 non contact hours must be submitted in the form of written assignments. Total number of 300hrs In addition to having already completed a level 1 training (200hrs) this creates a grand total of 500hrs. It is also necessary to document and submit 100 hrs of teaching experience.
What are non contact hours? Non-contact hours are given in the form of set assignments that can be completed either before or after the training and count as 55 hrs of the 500hr certification. You must complete a level 1 training and 300 hrs of level 2 studies to recieve your certificate. If you need time after the training to complete the hours you will be given a certificate of attendance when the training ends and your teaching certifcate will be posted to you after your assignments are recieved.

Will we study Ashtanga? All yoga philosophical and practical studies on Tribe trainings are illuminated by the application and understanding of the eight limbs of Ashtanga yoga, defined in the yoga sutras by Patanjali which guides us towards a journey of personal growth and spiritual development. Asana practice will be a mixture of various styles with an emphasis on Ashtanga vinyasa. We wil be practicing the 1st and 2nd series in many of the morning asana practices.

I have an injury, can I still attend? If you have an injury or physical complaint and are able to modify and adapt the practice then you will still be able to attend the training. Injuries are never a reason to stop practicing and actually can be a great lesson in sensitivity and humility.

What is the difference between trainings held at different locations? All trainings have the same schedule and manual. The lectures can vary on trainings according to the guest teachers or speakers that come to share their particular field of expertise. Austria offers a more relaxed and intimate feeling/atmosphere which some students feel accelerates their learning process and allows them to receive greater individual support. The venue has very little in terms of distractions as it is set in a very peaceful and beautiful valley surrounded by mountains and forests. We find the students feel very grounded and focused at the Austria training. Rishikesh is an ideal place to study yoga and is renowned for its many spiritual activities and events taking place all year around. For many just being in Rishikesh is truly nourishing for the soul. There’s also the healing and holy waters of the ganga to dip into, beaches to relax on and lush nature of the mountains all around. Goa seems to have lots of appeal for it’s great beaches and cosmopolitan feel and it is fast becoming a bit of a spiritual Mecca with people from all over the world gathering together to share what they do or to learn something from others and is the perfect place to come and spend some quality time studying yoga and many other spiritual practices...such as meditation, tai chi, dance, music, satsang. It’s also pretty cheap to live in Goa ...you can get a house and really settle for a while which is what a lot of students do. Spain has the bonus of staying at a working organic farm with a 'getting back to nature' feel. The Andalusia Mountains are renowned for their beauty and like in Austria the training will be a small and intimate group. The venue offers us a chance to live in a communal and family like way, sharing living and dining spaces. Although the venue is very much secluded (with a swimming pool!) it is close to a village and on the day off you can go to the beach at Granada

How many students will there be? The numbers vary according to the location ...in Austria and Spain we have a maximum of 15 students and a minimum of 2 teachers and in India currently our maximum is 28 students and a minimum of 4 teachers. You can visit the teachers page of the website to see the teaching teams for all scheduled trainings. How do I find accommodation near the venue? In India and Thailand offer mainly residential spaces and sometimes a few non residential spaces. In Austria the training in non-residential and you will need to book accommodation. There are many options of places to stay in the surrounding areas of all venues that we use. In Austria you can choose from guest houses to self-contained apartments. If you want to share with other students we can help you to make connections.
